Gustoso on the Ghost Train. The Ghost Train. Wilma Lee, Stoney Cooper. Ghost Train: The Studio B Sessions is the 17th studio album of country music singer Marty Stuart. The album was long-awaited by fans of Stuart, as most of the songs had already featured on The Marty Stuart Show, Stuart's countrybluegrass show on RFD-TV. It was recorded in the historic RCA Studio B in Nashville, which was being used by the Country Music Hall of Fame as a type of museum until Marty asked to use the Home of a Thousand Hits to record 'Ghost Train'. The Ghost Train is a theatre comedy suspense thriller, written in 1923 by the English actor and playwright Arnold Ridley. The story centres upon the social interaction of a group of railway passengers who have been stranded at a remote rural station overnight, and are increasingly threatened by a latent external force, with a denouement ending. The play ran for over a year in its original sold-out London theatrical run, and is regarded as a modern minor classic. It established the 20th century. Mismatched travellers are stranded overnight at a lonely rural railway station. They soon learn of local superstition about a phantom train which is said to travel these parts at dead of night, carrying ghosts from a long-ago train wreck in the area. The travelers eventually get to the bottom of the things that go bump in the night. In between the scary bits, comedian Arthur Askey plays the gags with his Vaudeville style humor. These dominate the first part of the album, most persuasively on Sleep, deftly written and performed in fairly authentic gypsy style, and Home, which features a disarming, unaffected vocal by Elana Fremerman over a sly and slippery melody line. Hot Club of Cowtown's relatively routine performance of You Took Advantage of Me leads to wilder Western territory here, aside from Fremerman's searing fiddle throughout Cherokee Shuffle, their reversion to rawboned cowboy rusticity leaves an anti-climactic aftertaste. Arnold Ridley. based on the famous play by. Scenes from a Ghost Train combines these elements into a fusion that resists the stereotype of the term, KQEDs Ned Raggett writes. Fangs work creates an enveloping flow of rich sound and understated experimentation. It doesnt sound like one specific style, nor a mix of them all at once - but something distinctly his own. The album opens with a four-part eponymous suite. Five-Mile Crater begins with a percolating rhythm derived from the sound of a stalactite that is soon complemented by a celestial bed of warm choral tones and abstract sounds. The atmospheric Kochs Veil follows, juxtaposing a contemplative piano with long, sustained string tones
