Shrines is the debut studio album by Canadian electronic music duo Purity Ring. It was released on July 20, 2012, by 4AD. Purity Ring recorded the album separately at home over several months, sending their parts via email. Shrines has been described as an electropop, synth-pop, dream pop, and indie pop album, incorporating hip hop-inspired production and striking lyrics. It was produced by Purity Ring, with additional production by Jon Hopkins. Purity Ring's approach to synth pop on Shrines blurs the line that separates dark and cute. While it brings the new LP some unique qualities, the overall experience of these eleven tracks is a bit Shrines. Shrines is the debut album by Purity Ring, released on July 24, 2012 by 4AD. Producers Corin Roddick, Megan James & Purity Ring. Writers N. Cobey & Purity Ring. Music Video Directed by Brewer. While whimsical, female-voiced electronic pop was all the rage when Purity Ring's debut album Shrines was released, the duo still managed to stand out from the crowd. Their sweetly chilly sound falls somewhere between Grimes' intricate quirks and the rhapsodic wordplay and sensuality of Braids, but Purity Ring's individuality comes from the equal partnership of Megan James' girlish vocals and unusual lyrics, and Corin Roddick's playful electronic soundscapes. A year and a half after Purity Ring surfaced with the song Ungirthed, the young Edmonton, Alberta, duo has released a proper debut, a compulsively listenable collection of dubbed-out retro-futuristic indie pop. Shrines is not about range, offering instead subtly different versions of a single, near-perfect idea. Listen free to Purity Ring Shrines Crawlersout, Fineshrine and more. 11 tracks 39:21. Electronic is the debut album by Purity Ring, a HalifaxMontreal-based duo comprised of Corin Roddick and Megan James. Purity Ring make lullabies for the club, drawing equally from airy 90's R&B, lush dream pop, and the powerful, bone-rattling immediacy of modern hip hop. Megan's remarkable voice is at once ecstatic and ethereal, soaring joyfully through Corin's carefully chopped beats, trembling synths, and skewed vocal samples. Purity Ring - Shrines review: Sleek, sexy, ultra-modern electronic pop with a deceptively dark underbellyPurity Ring - Shrines review: Sleek, sexy, ultra-modern electronic pop with a deceptively dark underbelly. Purity Ring have had more buzz emanating from them than a wasps arse ever since audio of sublime cuts like Lofticries fluttered around YouTube and the like. Their mysterious, under-wraps approach has only added to the Canadian duos appeal, and so its joyous to finally witness the time for them to step out of the shadows and present LP number 1, Shrines
