Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii is a 1972 concert documentary film directed by Adrian Maben and featuring the English rock group Pink Floyd performing at the ancient Roman amphitheatre in Pompeii, Italy. Although the band perform a typical live set from the era, there is no audience beyond the basic film crew. The main footage in and around the amphitheatre was filmed over four days in October 1971, using the band's regular touring equipment, including a mobile 8-track recorder from Paris. No, this album better acquaints us with a band that was just beginning to define themselves and their music. A band that had become a shadow of its former self after being stripped of their identity at the hand of its former leader, Syd Barrett, and spending an extend amount of time in their career rediscovering themselves. Title: Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii 1972. Live versions of the songs, filmed in an old Pompeii amphitheater. Songs included are Echoes split into 2 parts, Careful with that axe, Eugene, A saucerful of secrets, One of those days, Set the controls for the heart of the sun, Mademoiselle nobbs Seamus, but with Rick's dog on vocals. Careful and Set the controls are shot at night with minimal lighting, setting a beautiful mood. And the live Saucerful just has to be seen, with Waters jumping around in the sunlight banging the huge gong. This film captures Pink Floyd live - and alone - in a small stadium in the petrified Italian city of Pompeii, playing some of their pre-Dark Side of the Moon material. There is also footage of the band in the studio, working on Dark Side. Only for completionists 1. Review by SPECIAL COLLABORATOR Honorary Collaborator. The Live At Pompeii version that has the band's blessing. Before the 2003 issue of the Director's Cut version of the movie, there was the original VHS video release in 1981. For Live At Pompeii Pink Floyd is totally on song: the band memebrs are working together really cohesively and are at their brilliant best. For me this version of the Live At Pompeii concert is an essential masterpiece. Five stars from the Dinosaur
