Since We've Become Translucent is the sixth studio album by the grunge band Mudhoney, released in 2002. The album was the first to be recorded after the departure of their original bassist, Matt Lukin, three years earlier. It was also the first to be released through Sub Pop after the band returned to the label. Since We've Become Translucent marked a prominent change in the band's sound. The title of this album reeks of self-reflection I'm gonna guess Mudhoney became translucent, oh, probably right around October 26th, 1993, with the release of Five Dollar Bob's Mock Cooter Stew. And when grunge lost its relevance to the music world at large in the mid-90s, Mudhoney simply became invisible. Much has been made of their continued determination to pummel a very dead horse, but old habits die hard. After decamping to Reprise for most of the '90s, Mudhoney returned to their original home, Sub Pop, for 2002s Since Weve become Translucent. The album is a homecoming in more ways than one. They worked with three producers at three Seattle studios: Scott Colburn at Gravelvoice, Johnny Sangster at Egg, and Martin Feveyear at Jupiter. Even as they returned home, Mudhoney were obviously determined to evolve in the new millennium. Following the departure of founding member Matt Lukin, they hired new bassist Guy Madison, who gives the songs a more nimble feel while retaining the bludgeoning. Since We've Become Translucent is their eighth studio album and their first in four years since their last 1998 offering Tomorrow Hit Today. The album is characterised by the departure of bass player Matt Luckin who left in 1999 after ten years with the band and the arrival of ex-Lubricated Goat, Guy Maddison.
