Album 1981 15 Songs. Redirected from Sad Songs & Waltzes album. Jackie Keith Whitley July 1, 1955 May 9, 1989 was an American country music singer. During his career, Whitley only recorded two albums but charted 12 singles on the Billboard country charts, and 7 more after his death. Born in Ashland, Kentucky, Whitley grew up in nearby Sandy Hook, Kentucky. Whitley began his career there in 1970, performing in Ralph Stanley's band. Establishing himself as a lead singer in bluegrass music, Whitley moved to Nashville. Title cut from the 1982 album 'Sad Songs & Waltzes' by Keith Whitley 711955591989. Keith Whitley. Sad Songs and Waltzes may refer to: Sad Songs and Waltzes, a song by Willie Nelson from his 1973 album Shotgun Willie. Sad Songs and Waltzes, a 1982 album by Keith Whitley, posthumously published in 2000 its title track is a cover of the Willie Nelson song. Fashion Nugget, a 1996 album by Cake, featuring a cover of the Willie Nelson song. Rarities, B-Sides and Slow, Sad Waltzes, a 1999 album by Cowboy Junkies. Available for the first time on CD, this album pulls together tracks from Whitley's 1982 LP Somewhere Between and adds five previously unreleased songs, each filled with twang and heartache. Tastefully remixed by J. Crowe, the 15-song CD features Alison Krauss, Carl Jackson, and Diamond Rio's Gene Johnson and really captures the essence of Keith Whitley not only as a performer, but also as a true fan of country music. Track Listing. Listen free to Keith Whitley Sad Songs and Waltzes I Never Go Around Mirrors, I've Always Been Honky Tonk Crazy and more. 15 tracks 49:47. Jackie Keith Whitley b. July 1, 1954 in Sandy Hook, Kentucky d. May 9, 1989 was an American country music singer. Early life Whitley learned to play a guitar at a very young age, and became involved with a regional television show when he was eight years old. He and his friend, Ricky Skaggs, formed a bluegrass band, which landed both of them their first break in 1970, when they joined Ralph Stanley's Clinch Mountain Boys. Keith Whitleys first big break came in the late '70s when he became the lead vocalist of J. Crowe & The New South. A fellow Kentuckian, Crowe was a banjoist known mostly for his bluegrass tunes, but Whitley guided the New South toward a specific kind of resolute, no-frills honky-tonk, exemplified by the band's 1981 album Somewhere Between. After Whitleys tragic death in 1989, Rounder eventually reissued the album as Sad Songs and Waltzes. This isn't a slight to Crowe even at the time of its release, Whitley was unquestionably the groups focal point. Sad Songs & Waltzes is a collection of 15 songs that predate Keith's fame on the charts. But, there's not a song here that doesn't deserve to be on the top 10. This was originally recorded in 1982, and preceeds the new traditionalist movement of Dwight, Randy, Marty, and Patty. This album is an absolute must for fans of Keith Whitley Not one track on the album that I didn't like, and some that you're sure to play over & over. I already had three of his CD's, but not one song on this album is a repeat of music on the others. Sad Songs & Waltzes. Released 1982. Sad Songs & Waltzes Tracklist.
