His most recognized album, Sea of Glass, 1992, peaked at 11 on the Billboard Top New Age Albums chart. Reaves got his start in the Nashville country music business in the 1980s, as an engineer working for producer Marshall Montgomery. Himons friends said he went into a deep depression, and his health took a turn for the worse, never to recover. His passing came exactly two months after hers. Himons' restless spirit led him to Mexico City, where he performed with a local blues band, but it was during a trip to the Honduras in 1972, where Himons experienced a performance by Count Ossie & the Mystical Revelation of Rastafari, that he had a musical and spiritual epiphany that led to his conversion to Rastafarianism. Upon returning to Pittsburgh he began performing as West Virginia Slim, and grew dreadlocks. Reaves, Shelstad and Gerber performed onstage with Himons as part of Mind Orbit I. On Sea of Glass, his fourth release and first on the Hearts of Space label, Reaves comes full circle putting all the pieces together. What you'll find here are seven tracks beautifully segued together, which form a cohesive whole. The stitching is seamless, and a number of different moods and ideas are explored without interruption. The songs here are actually soundscapes, at times depicting visual representations.
