Woman is the sixth studio album by the American rock band the Doors, released on April 19, 1971, on Elektra Records. It is the last to feature lead singer Jim Morrison during his lifetime due to his death three months after the album's release, though he would posthumously appear on the 1978 album An American Prayer. Even more so than its predecessors, the album is heavily influenced by blues. It was recorded without record producer Paul A. Rothchild after he fell out with the group over the. Woman is the sixth and last studio album that the American rock & roll band The Doors recorded with lead singer Jim Morrison, who died in July 1971. The album's style is arguably the most blues rock -oriented of the band's catalogue. Following the departure of their record producer Paul A. Rothchild who dismissed the group's differing style as cocktail music around November 1970, the Doors and engineer Bruce Botnick began production on the album at The Doors Wor. The Doors. The last official Doors studio album, L. Woman was still high on the charts when, like the actor out on loan of its closing track, Riders on the Storm, Jim Morrison died in a Paris bathtub in the summer of 1971. Via such tracks as The Changeling, Crawling King Snake, and the frothy, rollicking title track, the collection leaned heavily toward the blues-in particular, Morrison's boastful Lizard King brand of it. Woman took shape in the Doors' rehearsal room, which they'd converted into a makeshift studio for the album, the band brought in bassist Jerry Scheff and guitarist Marc Benno to round out their sound, and the augmented lineup started cutting tracks live - a process Manzarek looked back on fondly. The Doors were making the record Jim wanted, rather than what was expected. His notion of the Doors was as a blues band, and not a pop group. Botnick's thoughts were echoed by Benno, who saw Morrison on a creative high during the making of L. Morrison was a nice guy who was on a roll. He reminded me of a wild gorilla at the sessions. The sixth studio album and the final album with Jim Morrison in their lineup, L. Woman is by far The Doors' most blues-oriented. Released April 19th, 1971 through Elektra Records, the album peaked at the ninth spot on the Billboard 200. Morrisons poetic ardor is undiminished and his vocal performance is unwavering in its enthusiasm, while the group as a whole returned to their original blues rock roots. The seven-minute title track was a car-cruising classic that celebrated both the glamour and seediness of Los Angeles the other long cut, the brooding and jazzy Riders on the Storm . Woman was Jim Morrison's sixth and final studio album with The Doors. It's an inspired set of blues-based material that transcends the genre with Morrison's otherworldly intensity. His psychedelic influences are still at work on the tribal The WASP Texas Radio and the Big Beat and in the wonderfully bizarre Hyacinth House, where he proclaims, I see the bathroom is clear
